He bandedout a hot one to the superintendent of police last Saturday, to the effect that until the new police board is appointed, the police department will be governed under executive direction. Chief McCulloch was instructed to close every saloon Sunday, and every night atII o’clock, and to see tbat the laws were enforced and tbat order was preserved throughout the city.The Uov. however will agree to let the people pay for the services of the police even though they have no voice in the selection of the commission. And while there was nothing wrong in his order of last Saturday, yet the fact that the peo-peo are denied the privilege of managing their own local affairs is all wrong and the people should rise up against such executive usurpation and put an end to it. It is an outrage upon a free people.+ * ♦
