Last night he accompanied Caddie Hayden from the wharf-boat to her house at Fifth and Poplarstreets, arriving there shortly after 10*o’clock. The-Hayden woman also testified that on a previous occasion he had said to her that he was tired of living.The nature of the wound caused the Coroner to surmise that a crime might have been committed, and that Scout Lochard had been murdered. Accordingly Frank Locbard, brother of the deceased, filed an affidavit charging the Hayden woman with the crime. Shesaid that she was always afraid of Will (Scout) when he was drinking, and that he had been an intimate friend of hers since childhood. She said further that she had been bothered at night by different perso’ns, and Will had gotten the pistol (a 38 calibre) for her to protect herself, Prosecutor Bear having told her that she had that right. He knew that she kept the pistol in her trunk, and that it was loaded. She had been leaning out the window to get cool, and hearing a noise, as of a drunken man passing, she again looked out the window to see if she could recognize the party. She heard a little noise (when she supposed Scout was fumbling in the trunk for the revolver)but paid no attention. After that (while still looking out) she heard a mu filed shot, not louder than a fire cracker, and Scout fell dead almost instantly with the pistol under him. She told a straight forward story, and says that she can prove her innocence.The Coroner postponed the finding of a verdict until to-morrow morning at nine o’clock, as a post-mortem examination will be hold this evening to determine the exact location of the ball, and thoroughly diagnose the wound.The funeral arrangements have not yet been perfected, but the obsequies will probably occur to-morrow afternoon at 2 o’clock from the residence of his brother-in-law, Oscar Pavey. Rev. A. K.
