Wild Nebraska Wheat—An Imposition. On or about the 25th of May, A. D. 1360, one C. R. McCauley, who came to Dee Arc a few months since, as a painter, which honorable vocation he soon abandoned, and busied himself in aiding; that class who have no “known means of making a livelihood,” called at this office and ordered fifty hand-bills, portraying the superiority of “Wild Nebraska Wheat, adapted to all climates and every soil,—producing 25 bushels to the acre in the poorest soil, and and 100 bushels in soils of superior fertility.” He proposed to sell this wheat at 50 cents a paper. He also ordered 1000 labels-to be placed on the afaresaid papers of wheat, which were to contain about 25 grains each. He told iti the wheat had not arrived, but he expected it on every boat.McCauley obtained the hand-bills from our office and a few of the labels, and remained about town until Friday evening of last week, when he slily took passage on the steamer St. Francis and left for some other section. This “Wild Nebraska Wheat” was purchased, as we learn, in Caroline township, specimens of which have been showa us, and is a very common article of wheat. We learn that parties here aided him in obtaining the wheat. We trust they are innocent of knowing anything of the fraud attempted to be practiced. We learn that McCauley not only swindled the printer out of $9,50, but that his board and liquor bill remain unpaid. This C. R. McCauley is reported to be from Lauderdale county, Alabama. He is near 40 years of age, hair quite gray—about six feet high—quick spoken—hands and face freckled; always ready, at the least intimation, “to take a drink.”As soon as we learn the names of those who aided, knowingly, in this wheat swindle, their names will be presented to the public.Since writing the above we have obtained the “identical wheat,” which was imported from Caroline township, and is now “on ex-hibtion” at;the Citizen Office.T21ofmAbn\01orticC:Ltilhe3(ar
