Drink Crazed, fries SuicideTruck Driver First Menaced FamilyGuy Stephens, 40-ycar-old truck driver whose wife sued him for divorce last week on grounds of habitual drunkenness, went on one of those drunken tears Monday night, apparently intent on harming both himself and hisfamily, but succeeded in doing neitherStephens attempted suicide by hanging in the “monkey cage” of the city jati a few minutes after lie was booked for drunkenness by officers who were summoned to the family home, 1128 East Second, where he had threatened his estranged wile with a butcher knife.LI. Roy Wise and Patrolman h\ E, Weatherman revived the man, who was near death from strangulation,Stephens had removed his belt, looped it over the top bars of the cage, fastened it around his neck and jumped. Loud insistent shouts of two other prisoners brought officers on the run.Wise said he had placed Stephens in the cage only five minutes before it all happened.
