Most important of them is the end of a capsule, made of some vitrified substance, which was in the hopper of the loading machine from which the fire started. Manager Briggs expresses the opinion that the capsule contained sorue self igniting fluid and that it was introduced into the explosive with the design of setting it off and wrecking the plant. There are other indications of foul play hack of the fire.Immediately after the catastrophe. Manager Briggs set to work to discover the cause, if possible. He was satisfied that the pure dynalite would not ignite spontaneously and he was interested to know whether the flash from this machine was caused by accidental mixing of some other ingredient, or by design. One of his ■first diseo\cries was a foreign substance in the cinder from the burned dynalre where the fire started. The pure dynalite burns to a Yilack cinder, but the cinder taken from this hopper had heavy green incrustation In places. While removing the cinder, another employe found a portion of a black capsule. It Is aibout three eights of an inch in diameter and the piece which remains is more than half an inch long. It is evidently manufactured and is unlike anything that was used about the dynalite plant. Mr. Briggs believes that it was the vehicle by which the self igniting compound was placed in the dynalite which had ’been prepared for loading. In arriving at this hypothesis, he does not suspect the employes or any one near at hand of doing the job. He ’ says1 that it would have been ’easy fof anyone to have entered the (building ‘the night before by removing a' pane of class, which could laf-have been replaced. He5beHeves that the capsule was placed In a can of dynalite. This can was afterwards emptied and its contents turned bottom upwards. Hence the capsule would be in the bottom of the second reepetacle. In feeding the machine, the capsule would not be reached until late in the day. Mr. Briggs believes that it was the calculation of the mischief maker to cause the explosion when the plunger struck the capsule, which would wreck the plant and ruin the business. The Dynalite lived up to its claims, however, and the worst result was a quick flre. The burned residue will be analyzed carefully and may show exactly what substance mtade tlhe trotilble. He has albO some definite theories as to who is at fault. Deliberate wrecking of powder mills has occurred and it was only a short time ago that a quantity of caps were discovered mixed with dynamite at a certain factory.•X/Sfrj*XBut 1 the sic! old Ho MCInGasollt;OuK.
