Hearing to SuppressConfessions, Is HeldJudge John Hazard, Noble County common pleas judge, will render a written opinion Wednesday as to whether to allow into evidence murder confessions allegedly made by Raymond A. Mayville, 23, formerly of 424 Steubenville Avc.Judge Hazard substituted Friday for Judge Delbert L.Tedrick in a hearing on a motion to suppress confessionswhich began at 1 p.m. and concluded at about 8 p.m. in Guernsey County commonpleas court.Defense attorneys John Charles Sheppard and David A. Ellwood, who were court-appointed, made the motion tosuppress Mayville’s allegedconfessions to the November, 1973, strangulation death of Mrs. Mildred Cropper.Testimony in the Fridayhearing was given bv twopsychiatrists, police officers involved in the original investigation and the defendant.Indicted for first degree murder in September, 1974, Mayville entered a plea of not guilty and not guilty by reasonof insanity in arraignments on Sept. 26. After undergoing psychiatric examination atprivate psychiatrists, he was found competent to stand trial m an April 30 hearing. The trialis scheduled to begin June 17 at 9 a.m.Prosecutor James R. Scott and Assistant Prosecutor Robert S. Moorehead Jr. represented the state in Friday’s hearing.Driver InjuredLewis Wilson, 53, Quaker City R.D. 2, was charged by the state patrol with driving while intoxicated after a one-car crash at 10:40 p.m. Friday on Route 209 at Jones’ Curve.The patrol said Wilson was northbound when he went offthe road and slammed into a utility pole.The car was demolished and Wilson was taken to Guernsey Memorial Hospital by Byrd Ambulance Service. He was treated and released.SERVICES TODAYATHENS, Ohio (UPI) — Services will be held today for Luverne Lausche, Ohio University architect, engineer and planner who died Thursday. Hewas 64.Lausche was to have retired this month and end 38 vears ofuniversity sendee which included being business manager from 1951 to 1967.
