rURA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, SATURDAY, IUNE 6, 1903IHP-atA BRUTALaar{h11enMURDERatA. The evidence of the witnesses at Coroner Beckley's%rinquest developed hut very littletangible evidence to work upon. The story of Louis Hubert, who wasarrested Monday evening by SheriffMcMartin and is still in custody at*»Ventura, was suhtant ially as follows ;He was working, according to hisstatements, in the baking room withI Mr. Robinet. putting in a baking ofEIFLERNAUMAN BEET PLOWin town in time to hold ho inquest over the body at i p. no. Saturday, 5 at the undertaking establishment of J jr Reilly Bros., A. L. Frye, J. G. Kirby, j ^ Chas. Anderson, Prank Johusou and j £ Prank Fields acting as jury. The witnesses who brought out tin* details principally as stated in this articlewere the two officers, (\ (\ Kason midG. M. Murphy, who found tin* body upon the side walk ami carried it into the building. Dr. G. A. Broughton, who stated that upon being calledand examining tin* deceased he discovered a hide above the right eye.that the bullet had passed entirelythrough the brain and that In* removed it at the back ol the headwhere it had lodged m the lowlt;u*cap.suI; Mrs. Robinet, who could notthrow any light upon tin* crime as she was in her apartment at the timehaving retired early; Hubert anditMalone. Upon receiving ail the evidence the jury brought tu the following report which was read by Foreman A. L. Frye: “We find thatAnatoh* Robinet came to bis death bv a builet llred by a man unknown by the jury ” IThere seemed to be a suspicion '•among the jury against Hubert, onaccount of his not being able to givea substantial account of thi* appearance of t he murderer and other detailsof the affair. Nothing appeared that would justify holding him, however.Joseph and Desery Robinet two sons, and Miss Bessie Robinet, aueighteen year old daughter of Ha* do-ceased, arrived on Saturday and with (Mrs, Robinet accompanied thi* bodvto Los \ngi*le. Sunday evening forburial, returning to Oxnard yesterday noon.Hurbet, tin* baker, proceeded Sunday to get drunk and in his besot*e I -tate made numerous irrational stati*-ments that at once began to arrouse the suspicions of tin* officers more than ever and atter I Ip* investigation of deputies Ip* was arrest *d by Sheriti McMartin, as above stated. After coming out from the influenceof his debauch, however, he told a much more rational story and theredoes not seem to be sufficient evidence as to his guilt to hold himiimii'Ii longer^ ^ •* ** *W. fl. Russell, deputy sheriff, i,,is remained in Oxnard the larger part of the w**ek working diliigently onthe case and has been unable as yet to unearth any tangible evidence that can be published. As He* baker was too frigbteue * to give any kind of an accurate description of the murderer more than that he had a dark face probabiy either a Mexican or negro, it lias been difficult to trace down the man, although numerous clews have been zealously followed up among the residents of all the Mexican district. Steps have been taken for the offer of a large reward for the capture of Robiuet’s mutderer and at least a thousand dollars will be raised, a largi* part of which is already pledged.
