Sold on BlockFor $1,500.Samuel Broom, an old colored man living near Clearspring, was at the Clerk's olllce hunting up records concerning himself with a view of making application for a pension. He claims to iiave belonged to the Fitzhughs and been the body servant of Col. Fitzhugh, who was sheriff of this county in 1^‘li Broom savs he was born near Chews-ville, and was sold at sheriff's sale in front of the Courthouse as a slave for $1,500. He also stated that he was in the Civil war. being taken from the plow in Ine field, and told t) report for service at Frederick, tie served three years, but was never wounded.
