SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (UPI)- Convicted murderer Richard C. Jett, a walkaway from the Ohio Penitentiary in March, agreed to surrender if Warden Harold J. Cardwell personally came after him.Cardwell, accompanied by his deputy warden, arrived at the designated spot near here Thursday. In the back seat of an abandoned car there was Jett’s body, dead of a selfinflicted gunshot wound.The 33-year-old Springfield man had drawn a life sentence for the killing of Betty Fawles, 26, Springfield, in 1966.Deputy Warden L.G. Ridenour said hisoffice received a telephone call from Jett’sbrother that the convict would surrender ifCardwell came to get him.Clark County Coroner George Anderson said Jett, who shot himself once in the chest, had been dead only a few hours before Cardwell arrived.
