22-year-old man gets death sentenceParolee convicted of murdering Brenham schoolteacherANGLETON (AP) - A 22-year-old parolee faces lethal Injection for killing a Brenham schoolteacher during an attackthat also claimed the life of the woman’s 11-year-old son.A six-man, six-woman jury, after deliberating 45 minutes Tuesday, determined Kavin Wayne Lincecum should die for strangling Kathy Coppedge, 35, during an abduction and attempted rape last summer.The woman’s son, Casey, also was abducted as he and his mother left their Brenhamchurch Aug. 11. He was thrown in the trunk of his mother's car and suffocated in the summer heat.On Monday, the same jury took just 30 minutes to convict Lincecum of capital murder for Mrs. Coppedge’s slaying.The evidence spoke for itself,” Barbara Cessac, the jury foreman, said.Lincecum, tn handcuffs and chains as the verdict was read, showed no emotion. His head remained bowed. He looked once over each shoulder Just beforehe was led out of the courtroom.“Justice was done,” Joyce Davis. Mrs. Coppedge's mother, said after hugging friends and relatives.I’m glad it's over, Washington County District Attorney Charles Sebesta said. “We knew we had a good case, but you never know what's on the mind of those 12 people.’1 Defense attorney Robert Kuhn said he was neither surprised nor dismayed at the verdict.“I don’t think there is a case you can’t win. but this is as harda case as I’ve ever done.” Kuhn said, “It was a very violent crime with a defendant with a prior record.Kuhn called Lincecum as the only defense witness during the punishment phase Tuesday. Lincecum stood, wavered, shook his head and then sat down, staring at the floor.During punishment testimony, witnesses identified the Ledbetter man as a participant in a La Grange robbery and a rape in Brenham.
