Tole appearing for the Crown.RECEIVING STOLEN GUM.PRISONER’S PAD RECORD.William Small came up for sentence on a charge of receiving kauri gumknowing it to have been stolon.‘You have n, long list against you,”remarked his Honor to the prisoner, and the list was read, showing that Small commenced in 1ST8 with six weeks’ imprisonment for larceny, and that his subsequent convictions included three year? for robbery with violence in 1886,seven years for a similar offence later,and two yea is for theft in 1901. “ Evidently y oar's is a hopeless case,” remarked the judge in sending Small to prison for two years with hard labour.NEGLECTED CHANCES.A well-dressed youth, Bernard William Irwin, had pleaded guilty to a charge ofbreaking and entering at Stratford. Hewas sentenced to one year's hard labour, his Honor remarking that the prisoner had a bad record, though he had not previously been convicted. He hadbeen given many chances, which he hadabused.
