TRUCKER PLEADS GUILTY TO SLAYINGPALMYRA, Mo. (AP) — A trucker pleaded guilty andwas sentenced Monday to life in prison without parole for murdering a 23-year-old Illinois woman.Larry D. Carter, 37, of New London, entered the plea during a special holiday session of court in Marion County, prosecutor John Jackson said.The burned, nude body of Valerie Ann Daniels of Blu-ford was found in January 1992 in Missouri, across the Mississippi River fromQuincy, 111. She had beenshot four times before she was burned, Jackson said.Authorities spent months trying to identify her, finally learning she was the Bluford woman who frequented truck stops.Carter became a suspect when he was arrested in a Michigan attempted murder case. Authorities said bloodsamples in the cab of his truck matched the genetic makeup of Daniels’ blood.
