AUSTIN (AP) — The former mayor of a small East Texas town faces death by lethal injection or life in prison following his capital murder conviction in the1988 shotgun slayings of his wife and her boyfriend Jurors deliberated three hours Wednesday before convicting Louis Talley, 45.Talley and his attorneys argued that he should be convicted of voluntary manslaughter rather than murder because the slayings May 9, 1988 at an Austin apartment were committed in the heat of anger.Voluntary manslaughter is defined as a killing committed “under the immediate influence of sudden passion arising from adequate cause.’’ It is punishable by a maximum of 20 years in prison.
