Continued from Page A-1bond was revoked last fall and will receive credit for time served, he said.Tezak also must pay a $750,000 fine — $250,000 for each of the three counts and an additional $500,000 in restitution to the insurance companies for the fires at the Galaxy Bowl and the PIC building.Andersen, in sentencing Tezak, made note of his “serious abuses that took place over a lengthy period of time,” Polales said.Andersen thus said the “substantial and serious sentencing was necessary,” he said.Additionally, during the sentencing Andersen noted that after bond was revoked last fall, Tezak attempted to hire a fellow inmate at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago, Sheldon Shannon, tokill former labor leader Kenneth Floyd, Polales said.Floyd was a co-conspirator of Tezak’s and a possible witness against him.Tezak later changed his mind about having Floyd killed and halted the plot but still paid Shannon $1,000, Shannon has testified in Andersen’s courtroom.Dan Webb, one of Tezak’s attorneys, appeared in court Friday and “spoke at length,” Polales added.Tezak was once an influential force in Will County Republican politics. He was first elected coroner in 1976 and served three terms. He made millions after gaining the rights to the UNO card game. Tezak also owned several radio stations and dabbled in auto racing.Tezak, his wife and several of their companies have declared bankruptcy.Tamara Sharman also contributed tothis story.
