Hard-Luck Stall ard Heads For First Winning SeasonST. LOUIS, Mo.—Tracy Stallard can hardly believe his eyes when he looks at the pitching averages. For the first time in his five-year major league career, he’s headed for a winning season. The Cardinal righthander hiked his record to 7-3 with a 3-1 victory over the Phillies, July 18, just three shy of the total he won last season with the Mets. He also dropped 20 decisions with Casey Stengel’s gladiators. It isn’t all peaches and cream, though, with the 27-year-old Virginian whose Big-Time ledger starting 1965 was 18-44. He has trouble finishing what he starts, but thanks to some steady bullpen performances, most of his rescuers have proved to be successful.Bad luck isn’t something new to him. He’s the fellow who served up Roger Maris’ sixty-first homer and he also was the victim when Jim Bunning hurled his perfect game.
