iThe Odds Are Against Her/HARRISONBURG (AP) _ Thephoto, taken from a family portrait, was sent to police departments around Virginia six weeks ago.Kelly Bergh Dove, dressed in a prim, ruffle-collared blouse with attay bow, is smiling. The glare of thephotographer’s lights flashes on thedark irises of her eyes and her full cheeks.A copy of the photo, complete with a description of Mrs. Dove and the man believed to have abducted her, is on the wall adjacent to the office where Harrisonburg Police Lt. Hubert Myers works. He sees it every day. He realizes the longer theiphoto hangs on the wall, the less the chance that Kelly Dove will be found alive. The police, in their frustration, have even called in a psychic to helpwith the investigation. We will find her sooner or later,”Myers said. We’re hoping she’s alive, but as every day goes by it's a strike against us.”Dale Dove agreed.Sitting in the back room of the Imperial gas station from which his 20-year-old wife was abducted June 18, Dove admitted what everyone familiar with the case knows: ''I've got to have hope, but the odds areagainst her.”He said his f-year-old daughter has accepted 'fairly well” that somebody took her mother.”It is not for lack of work that the Harrisonburg Police Department has not found Mrs. Dove. Myers flipped through a 63-page report on the missing woman as he talked about the case that, he admitted, has him frustrated. The single factor that has contributed most to the endless dead ends police have encountered is the lack of hard evidence.DALE DOVE
