In. neither Washington nor Illinois is there state legislation covering motor-car inspection. Seattle is now ponstrueting an inspection station with a capacity for 800 cars per day. The Seattle ordinance requires semi-annual inspections.Chicago's ordinance, passed by the City Council October 30, 1935, .became effective July I, 1938, and the compulsory inspection is, says i the News Letter, a free service undertaken solely as a preventative measure, in reducing the toll of automobile injuries and fatalities caused by defective equipment- Of 9,000 cars tested the day Iho ordL-The Ford sedan stolen from L. K. Brooks, local insurance and real estate dealer, at Memorial Park, Monday evening, was returned to him today by Chief of Police W. D. Risinger, after the car had been recovered by Press Colvin, uncle of the boy, on the Farmervill« highway from Dos S, Roane, 15 year old boy who had admitted stealing the automobile earlier today, Young Roane ran when Colvin attempted to bring him to town, and as yet has not been apprehended, according to Chief Risinger.Yourg Roane, after stealing the automobile, didn’t appear at his home until early this morning, ac-wooded lot behind his father's farm, and walked across the field to the house. On the way In, he met a negro, Co lemon, who work* for his father, and upon being questioned by Coleman, slated that he had just eomc from Alexandria, where he robbed a filling station last night, but had run out of money and had come home to gel more. He also stated that he intended to drive the car to a Ruslon filling station, gel it filled with gasoline and return to Alex-| andria today. Upon learning of thd talk from the negro, Roane's father immediately came to town'flmd learned that young Roane had already bought the gasoline. He then notified Chief Risinger that he suspected to boy of having a stolen automobile, after which the Chief and Mr. Roane immediately instituted a search for the boy. Around noon, Mr. Colvin stated, the boy Wdrove up to hla filling station on the Farmerville road in the car. Mr. Colvin said that he questioned the boy about having the new car, and after getting close enough to do so, he reached inside and took the kays from the boy. Young Roaone jumped and ran through the fields and as yet is still at large.
