——Number Witnesses To Testify in Trial i Of Joel Carroll1 PALESTINE, July 20. (^—Numerous defense and state witnesses planned to testify today during the trial of Joel Carroll of Athens, charged in connection with the robbery of the First State Bank at Frankston December 10.State witnesses testified yesterday they saw Carroll standing near the bank a few minutes before It was robbed.Charlie Curry, deputy sheriff, and Charlie Slaughter, constable, said Carroll was one of four men who participated in a gun battle i with officers after the robbery.The defense offered testimony to show that Carroll was in FortWorth at the time the bank wasrobbed.
