W. Carey, of Nobles-Ttlle. county clerk of Hamilton county, was a member of the gang which did the swindling, both In the Stout and Schoff-ner caaea. Ha adds that Carey, a short time ago, was caught In the game and loot S3.500. In order to get even he joined the gang. Osborn says, and Axed up the race between Carutbera and Kent In order to ewlndle farmer Lucius Stout out of turn. This he did, Osborn alleges and got back SI.000 of his money. Ryan met Owens, but took him to Sohoffner's attorney Instead. It Is believed that It was a scheme of the gang to get Schoffner to make statements in i their presence.Osborn says that a man, whose name he does not know, will come from Minnesota. This man charges that he was swindled out of no.DOO since the Schoffner affair in a fake prise fight.Found a Prlxe-Flght Ring.On Sunday. Oebom, Ryan and Schoffner went out to the park where the race was pulled off and tried to ascertain from the keeper of the park the character of the men to whom he had rented the plsce on the day of the foot raoe and prise fight. The keeper said the men made ths request for the place, aa It was larze, and that they would be drisking considerable beer.The three men—Osbom. Ryan and Schoffner—than want over the park andfound a building containing a prlse-Aght ring, which Schoffner says had been put there since he was swindled at the place.It is supposed that this ring was put up for the purpose of swindling the Minnesota man.Who Is Colonel Roberta!In the hall they found a piece of wrapping paper bearing an advertisement and the name Colonel Roberts, a supposed fictitious millionaire thought to be implicated In the affair. They also found the cards of Johnny Connors, the Springfield saloon keeper. A picture of the building was taken.The preliminary trial Is to be held on Thursday.
