Nash murder trial continuesHOMER (AP) — A 5-year-old boy testified Tuesday his stepfather shot his mother to death as she was trying to unlock the door to her mother's home, where she had fled her abusive husband.“I watched as he stepped up and just shot her down, shot her down, l Gabriel Bryant said in opening testi-j mony in the second-degree murder trial of Eddie Lynn Nash of Jonesboro.Nash, 32, faces life in prison if convicted of second-degree murderin the shooting last Sept. 12 of his wife, Angela Bryant Nash.Nash’s attorney, is asking jurors to convict him of manslaughter, which carries a mandatory 12-year sentence.The state district court trial was moved here from Jonesboro because of publicity about the case.Angela Nash’smother, Ida Bryant, also gave an eyewitness account of how Nash killed his wife on her 26thMrs. Bryant said her daughter had come to her house and that they went to get a warrant for Eddie Nash’s arrest for disturbing the peace.‘ ‘We went and took the police the warrant. Then (we) went to Wal-Mart to get some shoes for the boys and ... came back to my house. We had backed the car in and Angela said she heard the phone ringing. She asked me for the keys and ran to the door.‘‘She opened the screen, but she couldn't get the key in Ube other door. That’s when Eddie Lynn came up and said ‘Answer this, —and he shot her, Mrs. Bryant said.. Other witnesses testified that the Sept. 12 shooting incident was not the first in the Nashes’ marriage. OnFeb. 3,1992, Nash shot at Mrs. Biyantand his wife.
