Truckers Won’t Talk About Copsj CHICAGO lt;APt-Two truckers have reportedly refused to testify before a Cook County Grand Jury ! investigating an elleged $500,000 collected by northern Illinois state policemen from trucking firms.The truckers, Richard Sheppard and Angelo Ross, reported ly pleaded the Fifth Amendment on the grounds of possible incrim ination Friday in brief appear ances before the grand jury.The grand jury is inquiring into charges that state policemen ar cepted rash handouts from truck ing companies for allowing overweight vehicles on the state’s highways. More than 40 police men in the Chicago and Blue Island state police districts have admitted accepting twioe-a-year cash gifts.Two other truckers fail'd to appear Friday for testimony under subpoena, but their attorneys promised they would appear Mon day. They were identified as Sam Bongiovanm of Bongi Cartage. Inc.. and Leroy Janczak of Bla/ Cartage, both of Chicago.Sheppard, president of W. J |j.Sheppard Co., and Rossi, manag i er of Rossi Contracting Co.. bobt of Chicago, reportedly did not pro sjduce business records which had -i been subpoenaed by the grand 1 jury.
