Mayor Harrison to revoke the license ot Freiberg’s saloon and dance hall will be circulated for signatures to-day throughout Chicago. The petitions were placed last night in the hands of the various social service organizations by the Woman's City Club. A corps of messenger boys delivered the petitions up to midnight. The work of gathering signatures was given to the various ward chairmen of the Woman’s City Club, of the Political Equality League, of the Illinois Equal Suffrage Association, of the Young People’s Civic League, to the different settlements, and to the Young Men’s Christian Association and the Young Women’s Christian Association. The petitions will be presented in every church in the city to-day. Each petition calls for twenty names. The members of the civic committee worked until midnight getting into communication with the various organizations. It is expected the petitions will be ready for presentation to Mayor Harrison by Tuesday. The petition declares Freiberg's to be the most notorious and defiant offense against the law and declares that re voking the license of the place will deala stinging blow to commercialized vice.’*Georgie Spencer Defies Police.Georgie Spencer, redolent'of riches and ablaze with the diamonds she has accumulated as owner of a hotel” at Nineteenth and Federal streets, yesterday bearded Captain Nootbaar in his office and dared him to close up her house. *I’m rich,” she announced. I own that hotel, and it’s worth $45,000. I own a flat worth $40,000 and a house worth $16,000, and these stones,” fingering the diamonds which glittered all over her, are worth another $15,000, and I’d like to see you Interfere with my business.”She denied the story, generally circulated about the levee, that she has a fund of $5,000 for the refugees now at “Jack” Burk’s resort at Cedar Lake, and is ready to help them away any time it is necessary for them to flee farther.I don’t associate with such characters,” said the “Queen of the Badlands” haughtily. But she is the wife of Jack” Jordan, who has a dive at 2008 South Wabash avenue, and from which many an auto load of exclusive patrons has been taken from a side door to Georgie’s hotel.”I’m through with him—I’m suing for divorce,” stMnnnouneed. And the court records sho\fc|iat she spoke the truth'.Isabelle” l^Liuss, arrested hy State’s Attorney HoM in a levee saloon raid some nights aM, ’as free yesterdayby Judge Foell on a writ of habeas corpus brought by Attorney Charles E. Erb-stein.William Hurley and William Egan, arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct in connection with the levee raids, were freed by Judge Williams. Egan is said to be the owner of a hotel at 111 East Eleventh street, and Hurley lives at 1732 South Wabash avenue.Grady Escapes Charges. There was general surprise in police circles yesterday when the Civil Service Commission failed to file charges against Lieutenant Edward J. Grady of the Cottage Grove Avenue Station. Notwithstanding the fact that in Lieutenant Grady’s district open vice, disorderly saloons and other forms of lawlessness existed almost as flagrantly as in the Twenty-second street territory, charges were brought against only Captain Ryan and his three Lieutenants, leaving Grady with an apparently clear record. Our investigation for the time being will take in only the Twenty-second Street Station,” said one of the commissioners last night. When that is disposed of we shall look into conditions in the Cottage Grove avenue district, then the South Clark street district, and eventually other precincts where complaints of vice have been made.Any attack on Lieutenant Grady will be strenuously opposed by Chief of Police Gleason, according to the chief’s own admissions yesterday.I don’t believe there’s a better officer than Lieutenant Grady in the department,” said the chief. There is hardly a chance that charges will be filed against him, as he has done splendid work in ridding that district of law violators. I believe it would be a waste of time even to investigate police activities in that district.”Five women were arrested by men of the morals squad last night in a raid upon an alleged di -orderly bouse at 515 North La Salle street. They were booked on charges of disorderly conduct. Mrs. Mary Metz was named as keeper.BUSINESS NOTICE.SoreGranulated Eyelids,Eye* inflamed by exposure to Sun, Dust and Wind[uickly relieved by Murineye Remedy. No Smarting, just Eye Comfort.
