LIQtOR RAIDS ARE FRUITFULOfficer* Made Calk on Two Cititena of HawahJen SaturdayTwo liquor raids were made simultaneously in ffawarden Saturday afternoon. While Sheriff Hugo Synhorst and Marshal Matt Doctor, armed with. i •a search warrant, visited the Robert Johnson home in the south part of town, Deputy Sheriff Harry Dykstra and a special deputy made a similar call upon George Albertus at his radiator rpir shop. Both visits were fruitful of results. At the Johnson home the officers found the frigidaire crowded with bottles of whisky, brandy, ale, grin and other refreshing and stimulating beverages, all bearing state liquor seals, and a check of Mr, Johnson's liquor store book revealed that his purchases since the firBt of July had amounted to over $200. This all impressed the sheriff as being more liquor than one man should possess in so limited a period for his private use, so the stock was seized and charges of maintaining a liquor nuisance were filed against Mr, Johnson, He appeared Monday before Justice C, DeBooy at Orange City for preliminary hearing but waived examination and was bound over to the grand jury. His bond was fixed in the sum of $1,500 which was promptly provided.At the Albertus radiator shop the officers succeeded in unearthing only a half-pint of alcohol and a half-pint of moonshine but this quantity was considered sufficient to warrant the filing of charges of maintaining a liquor nuisance against Mr, Albertus in view of the fact that a considerably larger quantity of contraband liquor was found in his possession a few months ago when city officers raided the place and Albertus paid a fine under a city ordinance. The liquor found on that occasion has since been turned over to the sheriff. Albertus has previously been convicted on liquor charges in the state courts. Deputy Marshal Joe Bryson escorted him to the county jail at Orange City Saturday evening. He also appeared before Justice DeBooy at Orange City Monday and waived examination and was bound over to the grand jury.
