Boj.at Tampa.Last week Solomon Tingley. of Democrat township, received a letter purporting to be from John Nice, formerly of west of Cutler, saying that he had joined the army at Tampa, Florida, and was going to Cuba to fight the Spaniards. This letter, in itself, contained nothing more than hundreds of letters that pass through the mails every day, but in this case the information it contained was of much consequence, especially to Nice's relatives, and other persons who are acquainted with the case, as it locates a man who has been regarded as dead for several years. Some years ago John Nice and his family, accompanied by a man named Bowen, left Democrat township for Arkansas, and took up their home on a farm near Newport. They prospered and were getting along well, until one dav Nice marketed a bunch of cattle, receiving quite a nice sum, and returned home. That night he disappeared and all efforts to locate him were in vain. It was finally concluded that he had been murdered for his money and his body disposed of, and suspicion pointing to Bowen he was arrested, but was acquitted. A mob, however, decided that he was guilty and an attempt was made to hang him, but for some reason the matter was dropped. Finally Mrs. Nice and her children, mourning the husband and father as dead, moved back to this county, and last fall Mrs. Nice was married to J. F. Knarr, and they now reside at Star City. The letter from Nice has created quite a stir, but it has cleared a man of suspicion, who had Nice remained silent, would al ways been regarded with a more or less degree of suspicion.Nice, in his letter, does not state why he disappeared from his home.fIttI111
