FOR YOUTHFUL CONVICTS—Grim Buford Rock Quarry Prison To Become Rehabilitation CenterATLANTA (JV-Gov. Carl E. Sanders announced today that the old Buford rock quarry prison • in Gwinnett County will be converted into a rehabilitation center for youthful convicts.He told a news conference hewill make at least $36,000 available from his emergency fund for the new project and may allocate additional funds later inthe fiscal year.%Under the program, 379 convicts under 11 years of age now imprisoned at Reidsville State Prison will be moved to the new institution. Ten of them will be brought to Gwinnett County tomorrow.8anders said that Ihe state| will start providing academictraining for the youths Immediately.'‘We plan to develop a com prehensive program which would include physical fitness mental, recreational and spiritual activities, ’ 8anders said.The rock quarry prison up until three years ago was used to confine prisoners considered incapable of being rehabilitated More recently, It has been used as a Gwinnett County prison branch.
