-Old and Insane.[Tucoma Nowh.J .An old gentleman named Peter Todd Hudson, aged 02 years, was to-day brought before Judge Wickersham charged with iusanity. Ho was, on request of A. Beeves Ayers and others who are acquainted with him, sent to the Puget Sound (Jollege Hospital, where it is hoped ho will soon ro fainhis mental ixwers.Mr. Hudson is a carpenter, with ills home at Walla Walla. He spent the Fourth of July In Portland, where he had a very bad attack of rheumatism. Ho camo to Tacoma on tho 0th inst. and was hero several days. While in tho city ho bought some kind of a remedy for rheumatism and commenced taking it in large doses. His money becoming exhausted hero ho finally walked to Sumner, where ho has beon-liviug off of wild berries arid his medicine. Lately ho has been acting very strange, so to-day he was brought to this city to be examined os to his sanity.Mr. Hudson, it is said, was a colonel on General Grant’s staff during tho war, and at one time quite a prominent man, but a wound received in tho head, family troubles and dissipation have laid 1dm low. It is supposed that his having taken tho rheumatic remedy in such largo doses helped cause the present trouble.Tho old soldier is to be pitied, and tho country he fought to save should see to it that he is treated well
