Sweeny, well known among the newspaper fraternity, through force of circumstances brought 011 by the strike, struck its colors last week and suspended publication.Senachwine lake is quite popular this season, but they say there is one drawback to the place: the mosquitoes there are almost as big and as ravenous as buzzards. And, unfortunately, two persons have met their death there in the past few weeks by drowning.Two weeks ago the directors of the Farmer's .National bank held a regular meeting and among other business declared a dividend due stockholders and ordered the same to be paid, of 5 per cent. They also increased the surplus prolits of the institution from $50,000 to $00,000.P. G. Larson, the North End undertaker and funeral conductor, was titty years old yesterday. The same day his daughter Evelyn had a birthday, and also the wife of Prof. lieese. Mrs*. Larson gave the trio a party to celebrate the triple event, and with their friends had a very enjoyable time.Two members of Co. A., of Hock Island, stationed at Spring Valley, got a little hilarious last Friday evening and tried to clean out the worst Italian saloon in the place. They were tiredfrom the place and by the timely arrival of Major Clark their lives were saved from the hands of a mob which was after him.The following persons have been licensed to marry: W. II. July 11; Louis Ackerman, of Spring Valley, to Minnie McCaull, of Braceville, July 11; George F. Parker, of Peoria, to Amanda Primmer, July 14: Gust Farn-roos to Anna Gustafson, July 17.The manner in which Sheriff Cox massed his forces at Seatonville, Ladd and Spring Valley, during the recent disturbance, made the good results possible which followed. But the sheriff does not wish to take all the credit for those results to himself. The good and faithful work of his lieutenants stationed at Ladd and Seaton added not a little toward preserving peace, protecting property and the capture of burglarious rioters and their booty. To these the deputy sheriffs and Major Clark, who was of invaluable assistance to him at Spring \ alley. Sheriff Cox desires the Tribune to express his warm est commendation. He fully appreciates the willingness of all to do their duty and undergo the unusual hardships they endured, uncomplainingly, by the loss of sleep and the lack of accommodations; and he also wishes to thank them for their good conduct generally while under his orders. Those who still have guns loaned them while deputies. the sheriff requests they will leave them at the court house at once.After the rioters had ambushed the teamsters whom Sheriff Cox had sent from Spring Valley to Seatonville after deputies, last Monday night, and fired on them with shot-guns, considerable comment was caused among the deputies at Seatonville and eventually in Princeton, over the manner in which George Prior and John Nagle dug out for Seatonville while S. C. Powell, who had been wounded, was returning the Are and calling 011 them to shoot.
