The sacrifice outright of a worthy citizen and the probable fatal wounding of two others, and the shooting to death of the perpetrator of the deed and narrow esea|e of his accomplice from lynching, seems to have been the terrible but successful agent of the solution of that mystery. It is a grievous burden for the friends of the murdered and wounded men to bear, and it is to be lamented that the shedding of so much innocent blood does not clear up in the least the apparently unfathomable secret of the murder of Mayor Stubbs of the same village over a year ago.THE TRAIL FROM POLK CITY.When the murderers oft lingan tied from thescene of their crimes thcv took a course but•little north of west. The horses stolen near Sheldahl and used to facilitate their flight gave the first reliable clue to their direction. Had that been correctly followed up. instead of having been lost, the capture of the des-jieradoes would have been accomplished much sooner. The rumors of the murderers at IVrry. and their inquiry for a newspaper, on Wednesday evening, were probably true, for they were next seen near Coon Rapids, on the Carroll countv line.
