W. Stahl Company of Somonauk was awarded the contract for the placing of the black top surface on the 22 blocks of improved streets. Their bid was the lowest of four which were submitted. The contract called for $6,905 for the completed job.OREGON — The dedication of a permanent marker on the site of the Thomas Hitt cabin, on what is now the Joseph Young farm will be one of the events in the celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the organization of the Rock River conference, which occurred in or near the Hitt cabin in August, 1840. The historical commission of the Rock River conference with the local Methodist congregation are planning the erection of the marker. A low cement curbing will be built around a plot some twenty feet square. The original 8tone foundation can be seen in this plot.The gypsies were taken to the De-Kalb county jail at Sycamore where the fifteen adults were photographed and finger-printed. One gypsy woman wa^fined $50 and octets to Police Magistrate H. H. Pearce.When the six carloads of gypsies were ready to leave the DeKalb county deputies escorted them to the K^ne county line. Kane deputies met the party and conducted them to the Du-Page county line. Dupage authorities took them in hand from the Kane county line. The Gypsies claimed they were Cherokee Indians from Oklahoma.LELAND — Mrs. Edith Balsley former owner of the Leland Times has accepted a position in Chicago at the Morrison Hotel.
