Crime and iu Reclaim.9Two boy, Mon Turnor and ReesGo\nv. were arrested and tried before Justice Hay, Precinct JVo. 4, upon the charge of rape upon the person ol Rebecca Reed, living in Backbone Valley in this county. Miss Reed, it appears from the evidence disclosed upon the trial, was returning home from school when she was attacked bv theVtwo former and ono Cul Benson, he Benson, effecting his fiendish purpose first, after w hich the other two caught her and by a united effort succeeded in their hellish design. Afte r hearing the evidence justice Hays committed Turner and Gobles to Georgetown jail in default of five hundred dollars bail, each. JVnson is still at large, but when last heard from his pursuers were only one hour’s ride behind him. This diabolical crime was committed in broad day light. Great credit is due the good citizens of Backbone Valley for their determined effort in this fearful case, to uphold the law' and bring the criminals to justice under it.Esquire Hays’ course iu sending the prisoners to Georgetown jail iscorrect, let it cost what it may, because the prisoners might just as wrell be incarcerated in a rail pen, as putin Burnet jail.
