Shank-lin, 18, negro of Cashier’s Hill, gave himself up Friday.Wanted by state police on a charge of stealing two valuable horses from the farm of Mrs. G.W. Harman at Crumps Bottom, came to the home of Mrs. Harman's son, W. E. Harman, and surrendered, asking Harman to bring him to Hinton.Harmon told him to go to bed and get a night’s rest, but the negro refused because he had heard the police set Friday night as the ceadline for him to surrender.Harman brought him to jailabout 10:30 p m.Eugene Medley, arrested bystate police several days ago in connection with the same theft,signed a written confession today before Prosecuting Attorney Thomas L. Read, in which he told not only of the theft of thehorse, but described howhe had stolen and disposed of about six automobiles, been arrested several times, escaped once from a state trooper by slipping his handcuffs, andserved 15 months in an Ohio reformatory.They said they left the stolenhorses at Narrows, Va., for sale, and asked the money be forwarded to James Russell, of Lovern, Va.—asking $100 for each of the animals valued at $500 by the owner.Arraigned this mqjning before Justice 1. E. Briers, the two waived examination, and were held to the grand jury under bonds of $3,000.
