DEATH TAKES/W. C. MILLER■IUneBS'of More Than Three Years Proves Fatal to Newark Resident.Captain William C. Miller, 62, agent m the state banking department, and twin brother of Major Charles W. Miller, died Tuesday afternoon at 8:30 o’clock m his home, 473 Hudson avenue. Death resulted from a heart condition.His illness dates back three years, when his condition was regarded as serious for weeks While he had been in ill health since that time, he was able to take care of business and early* m June made a trip to Dubuque. la , to attend the wedding of his son, Dr. John Fleek Miller.While his condition became serious again during the past few weeks, recently it had been improved and his death yesterday was unexpectedCaptcim Miller was born in this city Dec. 8, 1867, the son of the late George and Louisa Ftory Miller. He was graduated from Newark high school in 1886 and later entered the county treasurer's office as a clerk under W. H. Davis, then county treasurer, serving la-ter under htsfather. George Miller.He was also associated with the Licking County bank, of which he was an officer, and later engaged in business with Fiank Owens m the Scott building, where they operated a furniture, china and crockery business This business was later absorbed by the Powers Miller company and they opened a department store m the Union block, later moving the business to the Hull building.Like theiiJ father, who served four years wLth the Fir^t Pennsylvania and the Second Ohio, during the Civil war, C W. and W. CL Miller have alwa3rs been greatly interested m military affairs, to which they have given much of thei.r time.Smcp the early 00*s they had been members of the Ohio National guard and did duty at Mineral Siding more than 85 years ago when the state mihtia was called out to quell an uprising.W. C. Miller organized a battery here and at the outbreak of the Spamsh-Amcrican war he resigned his position as deputy county treasurer. which he had filled for nearly 12 years, that he might give military aid* to his country. He went out with the rank of captain of Battery B. First Ohio, light artillery, reporting with his command at Chicka-mauga Park, Ga„ where he was m camp for about eight months, waiting orders to move to the front. He offered his services during the World war but was rejected on account of his health. His brother, Major Miller, was accepted and saw service.On June 1, 3J07. he was elected vice president of tho Licking Bank Trust company, and later to active management of the bank as secretory-and treasurer.He was also a former director and secretary of the Licking Light Power company, and also a director of the Tribune Publishing company, Sherwood Improvement company and the Newark Baseball club.Mr. Miller was a member of the Second Presbyterian church.Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Alice Fleek Miller, three daughters. Mrs. Everet Reese. Mrs. Harold S mucker of this city. Miss Alice MHler of the home, and one son. Dr.John Fleck Miller, Boston. Mass.:his brother, O. W. Miller, head of the liquidating division of the state department of banks, and one sister. Mrs. Edward Tyrer, of this city, atso survive.Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the home. Dr. Nickerson will of-flemte and burial will be made in Cedar Hill cemetery.
