II. Marsh Kicked And Kohbed By Bandits.The most daring and brutal holdup and attack that has jpotne to light in Northern Michigan for many months, was pulled oft by three bandits at Boyne Falls last Friday night.The victim was O. 11. Marsh, proprietor or the Marsh Hotel, and telegraph operator at Boyne Falls, who was seized by the trio just as he stepped from his auto about midnight on his return from a trip, ordered to throw up his hands and then to deliver up his cash and other valuables.Marsh isn’t accustomed to such treatment, and he proceeded to fight. Thereupon he was knocked down and relieved of his cash, which amounted to $40, and of his watch and other valuables. Not satisfied with striking and kicking their victim during the holdup, the bandits continued to kick him in the face after they had taken all he had, and desisted only when citizens who had been awakened by the melee appeared on the scene. Then they disappeared in the darkness with their booty. Marsh would have been beyond recovery had the kicking continued a minute longer, it is said.After an all-day chase Saturday, a hunt all Saturday night and until 4 o'clock Sunday morning. Sheriff Weaver, ot Charlevoix county, gave upthe hunt for the three bandits.Sheriff Weaver and a posse overtook the highwaymen south of Boyne Falls Saturday but after a running revolver battle the men escaped into a large swamp at the Elmira coal dock on the Pennsylvania lines. One highwayman was wounded and lost his hat, coat and gun in the battle. Five members of the Michigan State Police aided Sheriff Weaver in surrounding the swamp, but the men could not be located.The posse discovered where the men spent a part of Friday night in a basn near Boyne Falls. When overtaken they were walking along the railroad track headed south. When ordered to halt they opened fire, but their shots went wide.Deputy Sheriff Fred Coone, of Charlevoix, and Deputy Joseph Stevenson, of Boyne Falls, aided in the chase.
