According to Kannapolis Police Chief Bob Ketchie, the couple had been dating. In the Monday night and early morning kidnapping incident, police reports show that Lowe forced Ms. Morgan at gunpoint to drive him to Davidson. No reason was indicated for the trip.Chief Ketchie said Lowe then forced Ms. Morgan to return to the Rowan County side of Kannapolis to the home of his mother, Mrs. Lillie Mae Lowe,at 109 West 8th Street, arriving there around 10 p.m. There, police reports say, Lowe made his mother leave the house, and he tied the Morgan woman’s hands and feet. Bost,Rowan County Sherrif John Stirewalt, and Officers Buddy Templeton, Leon Richardson and Jim Meeks of the Kannapolis Police Department arrived shortly on the scene.Lowe pointed the gun at the law enforcement officers and warned themthat if they tried to come in and take him he would kill the woman and then himself, police reports said.Lowe said he “wasn’t going back to prison,” noted Chief Bost, who said the abductor had been in prison “several times.” Currently breaking, entering and larceny, and possession of stolen goods charges are pending against Lowe.Bost said the officers kept talking to Lowe, and finally he released the girl, but continued to direct the firearm toward the officers, warning them not to try to come in after him.Approximately an hour later, after Lowe said he wanted to talk to Ms.See STANDOFF On Page 8A
