Apparently Ferguson then picked up the second air rifle and beat her across the forehead and face until the butt was shattered and broken off.Ferguson then went to the homes of his sons, Walter and Albert in Spencer, in an effort to recover the shotgun, telling them that he wanted to shoot birds but apparently with the intention of committing suicide. When he did not find the gun at either place, he drove to the home of his son, Raymond, on County Road 45 in Chatham township, about four miles distant, also asking him for the gun.
