Eureka River ToHave Telephones(By The Gazette's Correspondent)Eureka River, July 3rd -The Indians from the Clear Hills Reserve all went to Hay Lake to receive their treaty money.Many of us remember the old favorite song of a few years backentitled “A bicycle built for two” If we had a poet in our midst he might write a modern version entitled “Old dobbin built for two.” Riding tandem seems much in vogue here and is seemingly enjoyed by the lucky participants.The offer of the government through W. H. Bailey. M.L.A., to suppy all wire and equipment free for a telephone line from Hines I Creek to Eureka River P.O., has been accepted and work will proceed shortly in the hauling and i erecting of the necessary poles, j The people are very much pleased with the prompt action of Mr. Bailey and the Department in con-| nection with this. The depart-1 ment is also willing to supply material for the line as far as Clear j Prairie if the people of Worsley and Clear Prairie wish for it.Joe Larsbeck was up last week. He says the water is fine.Alex Gray, forseeing a wet season, has a vegetable garden on the dirt roof of his cabin. Alex won t need much exertion to procure himself a regular vegetable diet.Phil Lambert passed through on Sunday with a bunch of horses bought at Fort St. John, bound for Peace River.The heavy rain-fall has caused an overflow of the' Eureka Riverand a number of travellers had toswim their horses across it. If a small sum of money were expended in clearing out the windfalls and other debris from the bed of the river so as to give an uninterrupted flow to the water, a great deal of inconvenience to the travelling public could be eliminated.
