Thornton Township Constable Contradicts Version of Prohibition Agent* ——■———*LANSING, 111., July 14. —Fred J. Kester of Lansing:, a constable of Thornton township who was arrested recently when federal prohi-bition agents raided a roadhouse on the Dyer road, declares that he Is the victim of a practical joke or aframe-up.In relating- his story of the arrest, Kester contradicts the version of G. E. Golding, chief of the special agents of the prohibition department.Kester says he was not in the roadhouse when the officers arrived but was asleep in the rear seat of his car.“I had stopped there that evening to get some barbecue to take along to Cedar Lake the next day/* he said, “The proprietor was out so I climbed back into my car to wait for him. A young -woman who is a neighbor of ours works at the roadhouse. When I was in the place she asked if she could ride home when her work was finished. While I was asleep in the car she came out, ready to go home, and got in the front seat. She also had fallen asleep when the officers came. She was not intoxicated as they said.“When they searched the car they found a milk bottle filled with wine. How it came there I don't know. I never put it there and the girl says she didn't. Maybe some new light can be thrown on the affair when it comes up for trial in Septemebr/* ' Mr. Kester has been employed as a printer at the W. B. Conkey Co. in Hammond for 23 years.
