Insolent Mendicants.Officer Banta was called to tHe corner of Sixth and Jefferson streets about 9:30 Saturday evening by residents who were annoyed by the unusual actions of two' strangers, who apppeared to be in an intoxicated oon-dition. They knocked at the door of the home of O. A. Harper, 223 South Sixth street, and one of the men, who claimed to be blind, asked the young lady who responded to the call at the door if she would read the card for the “poor blind man,” She refused, however, to unfasten the screen door. The unwelcome visitors then left but were heard on the street quarreling and cursing. They called at several homes and badly frightened a oonple of ladies whom they met on the street. They attempted to converse with one woman who ran from them and they followed her to the center of the road. The officer made a thorough search of the neighborhood bnt could not find the men.At another place in town evidently one of these blind (?) men dropped some coins and had no difficulty at all in securing them.
