Fire Destroys Fruitland SchoolFRUFTLAND, Idaho (AP) -Fire destroyed the elementary school building In Fruitland early Wednesday, causing a loss estimated as high as $500,000.The one-ground structure that was built about 12 yean ago was burned to the ground despite efforts of fire departments from Fruitland, Payette, New Plymouth and neighboring Ontario, Ore.Principal Russell Cbarit said all school records in the building were lost. However, furniture in three rooms was carriedout.Police Chief Tom Smith said he was the first to reach the scene after the alarm sounded at 3:30 a.m. He said it appeared the blaze started In the kitchen area.Charit said a broken winduw was found in the opposite end of the building and suspected the fire was set by an arsonist.The fire was the second large blaze in Fruitland in four months. The Idabo-Orcgon Fruit Growers Association plant b.smed last March.
