Carter Arraigned On Murder Charge; Bond h $10,000Judge William J. Dick, accompanied by County Attorney Jerry R. Demo, went to the Newman Memorial County Hospital this morning and arraigned Billy Wayne Carter, 34, 702 Whittier St., on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with Ihe death Saturday night of I-Iider Ervin, 40, at 1023 East Street.Carter, a patient at the hospital, is under continuous guard by deputies assigned from the Sheriff’s office. He was admitted Saturday night for amputation of a toe, as the result of a shotgun wound allegedly inflicted by Ervin when the two men had ah altercation over a $5 bill.Bond for Carter was set by Judge Dick at §10,000. No time has been announced for the release of Carter from the hospital. Likewise no date has been set for a1 preliminary hearing on the murder charge in County Court. County officials said that Mr. Carter indicated this morning that he would select his own defense attorney.
