Hayes, the negrodining car waiter, who is alleged tohave attacked a young white womanon passenger train No. 3, while itwas in the station here, a week agoSunday, has been set for next Monday.The negro is now in Birmingham,where he has been held in safe keep-d\c1Iing in jail, since the alleged attack. 1The trial was set for Monday, of 1this week according to reports, butas the authorities were unable to 1find the young woman, they postponed the trial until next week. •The young woman’s name is MissDorothea Balmer, and she is said tobe staying at the Dexter Hotel inMontgomery.The trial will take place beforeJudge Fred Buchmann and the negrowill be represented by Callahan Harris, attorneys of Decatur, according to reports. Solicitor Bland willrepresent Miss Balmer, and SenatorA. A. Griffith, L. N. attorney, willalso represent the defense.
