Poucs Cot kt — (Monday)—John D. Haggan, irom Waterloo, charged with drunkenness, was , fined $•_. James Green was charged wiih stealing three five-dollar gold pieces from W Mclllereo, a Jeck-hanj on board the barque Robert Gaskin. The complainant deposed that the prisoner came on board the vessel at Gravelly Bay on Wednesday last, and obtained a free ■ajsage to Kingston. On the morniDg of yesterday complainant, while in the vessel's forecastle, examined the money, which was in a mit, and placed it for safer keeping in a breast pocket of his coaL At the lime complainant was examining bis money the prisoner lar iD a buok in tbe forecastle, as complainant supposed, asleep. Upon arriving at Kingston yesterday evening, after tbe vessel was moored, com-plainant missed his money, and suspecting tbe passenger, inquired about him, aDd was informed by one of [he hands that tbe prisoner bad jumped asbore off tbe jib-boom before the vessel was moored, taking his clothes with him. Complainant believed that no one on board tbe vessel knew ot his having the money excepting the prisoner, whom he supposed saw the money whem complainant thought him asleep. The Magistrate inquired of the prisoner, who admitted jumping ashore off the jib-boom, how much money be had upon leaving the vessel, to which be replied that be had seven or eight dol.ars in silver. James Hogan, tavern-keeper, Ontario street, was then sent for, upon whose arrival in court was asked if he recognised tbe prisoner. Hogan at once identified Green as a man who came to his tavern about elev.o or twelve o'clock last night and obtained changefor a five-dollar gold piece. Hogan swore to the abo\re.Sergeant Bell accused Hogan of declining to g e tbe police information when inquiring into the present case this morning, and in fact denied having changed the gold. After a rebuke from the Magistrate, the witness was allowed todepart, and the prisoner was remanded until Wednesday next.
