at Lansing,According to the records, Carter on October 7th, I960, by shooting with a .22-caliber rifle, maimed and wounded Bud Brooks at the Streamline Diner. He pleaded. guilty to a reduced charge in February, 1961, was taken to the state prison on March 1st, 1961, to serve a one to five-year term and was later paroled.Lyon County Commissioners were told by Mr. Demo this morning that he had authorized the sheriff to keep an around-the-clock guard on Carter at the hospital, until a doctor released him there for commitment to jail. When the man will be arraigned in County Court before Judge William J. Dick on the second-degree murder complaint depends on the hospital release.Funeral services for Mr, Ervin will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Roberts - Blue - Barnett Chapel. They will be conducted by Kenneth P. Davis. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.Hider Ervin, the son of Hoyle' Bussell and ATora Clay Ervin, was born Feb. 12th, 1916, in Emporia. He is survived by his mother, Rt. 4; four brothers, Major and ConracI, of Rt. 4; Hoyle, of Americus, and Pres ton] of Topeka, and one sister, Miss Dorothy Ervin, Chicago, 111.Veterans of World War I and Auxiliary. A program was presented by Melvin Johnson, who sang and played a guitar. Members of the committee in charge were Messrs. and Mesdames J. L, Milner, Seth Humphreys, Harry Rowland, Lloyd Millard and William Hardman, Mesdames M. L. Beath and Frank Suddock and Messrs. William Barnow, Albert Main and Ralph Edwards,Mr. and Mrs. Lewis G. Schultz have returned from a few days in Kansas City where they attended the Starlight Theater and a Detroit - Athletics baseball game.
