Threatened to Kill WomanHAD YOUNG DEEVER, THE VICTIM OF MRS. WHITEMAN, OF WIRT COUNTY.PARKERSBURG, \V. Va., July. 12. —Alice Whiteman, the nineteen-year-old girl, whose lover was shot last February by her mother -in her own door yard, testified tor the State yesterday and -gave damaging testimony against her mother.She proved a good witness for the defense as well, however, as she testified that on the very day of the murder she heard her lover threaten her mother's life. She testified • that her mother had often asked Ed Deever not to visit the daughter and that he as of ter threatened to kill her.On the day of the murder Deever called Alice Whiteman to the yard, and she went out and talked to him. She. testified that her mother followed and ordered Deever to leave. He refused and threatened to kill Mrs.; Whiteman, whereupon she went to the house and returned with a gun.1 iVllce insisted that she turned her back, because Bhe did not want to 1 see her mother hurt, and did not see I who shot. But she heard the shot | and -^hen saw Ed Deever dead. No one else- was present but her mother.Other witnesses testified that Mrs. Whiteman had stated to them that she had secured legal advice to the effect that if Deever came to her premises after she had ordered him not to do so, she had a right to kill him. Other witnesses testified that had once tried to kill Ed Deever, but Mrs. Whiteman had said that she he got away. The defense now has the case and is showing that the deceased had often threatened the accused woman.
