Jury selection begins inA Jury was being selected in District Court Monday to hear the second-degree murder trial Of Paul Luna Vasquw, accused of intentionally killing Joe Martinez Alvarez, 50, of rural Ault, in an Ault liar last Dec. 10.Vasquez, 21, 326 21st Avc., also is charged with menacing with a deadly weapon and three counts c( violent crime sentencing allegation.Two persons were injured in a two car collision at 5 p.m. Friday at ath Avenue and 9th Street, according to Greeley police reports.Alvarez was shot In the chest and died at the scene after a fight broke out in the El Sombrero RBr in Ault about 10:3) p.m. Dec. 10.In the menacing with a deadly weapon charge, Vasquez is accused of menacing Martin Perez, the bar’s bouncer, with a .32 caliber pistol.A report by Jerry Smith, whohospital care, police reported.The Spencer car received 5400 damage; damage to the Jenkin3 car was set at $300.At 7:29 p.m. Friday, Amandamuder trialwas the Ault police chief at the time, said Vasquez allegedly had fired a pistol twice in the direction of the bouncer after Perez was knocked to the floor when he tried to separate the two fighters, one of whom was Vasquez.Smith's report said Vasquez then allegedly turned around and fired one shot which struck Alvarez in the chest.Judge Hugh H. Arnold Is presiding at the trial. Michael Varallo, assistant district attorney, and Melvin Okamoto, deputy district attorney, are representing the people. Vasquez’s attorneys are Bryan D.
