MAX KILLS GIRL,ENDS OWN LIFECamilla, Ga., July 9.—A 17-year-old girl was shot to death as she sat in a tobacco barn beside a girl friend at Camilla Tuesday by a . young man who used the same pistol I to kill himself, Deputy Sheriff Groover Jones reported.Jo..es, who investigated the case, said George • Snipes, 19, shot and killed Lessie Porter, the girl, then turned the gun on himself.“Persons at the barn who witnessed the shooting said Snipes, a stepbrother of the girl, came up behind the girl, shot her four times, and then shot and killed himself with the9same pistol,” Jones said.“Snipes died instantly but the girl just before she died, told those around her:“He killed me because I wouldn't marry him.”Deputy Sheriff Jones said MissPorter was a daughter by a previousmarriage of the wife of Snipes'father.Jones said “no inquest was held, since there were a dozen or so people who saw the shooting.”
