Ewart at Eldo rado With National GuarcLGar bond ale, HU, July IX.*— Thosituation is becoming acute at Eldbradoin Saline county, where the negro Normal sod Industrial school was forced oat fay the acts of a mob and more than forty negro citizens compelled to leave their crops, their homes and aurrottadingS’to save their lives.On Tuesday night a mob of about 25persons, all whites, visited the real-» *dene© of the Rev, Peter A Green, pastor of the African Methodist churchof Eldorado, and demanded to knowwhy he and his family* had notrobeyed the notlooB which had been posted several weeks ago to leave the county. Green's family became greatly frightened when they saw the mob bad arrived. Over half of the men were armed,The preoher got his gun and going to the front of the house told the invaders that he would defend his home With his life. Stones were dung at the house and a score of shots were fired. Green returned the fire and Is supposed to have severely wounded one of the men in the mob, although aa effort is being made to coaceal; fhe name of the injured man.So far no arrests have been made, while the personnel of the mob is claimed to be known.Indignation meetings have been held to protest against the whole affair. Wednesday night one was held by the negro citizens of hlurphysboro, in which strong resolutions were adopted, and the sheriff condemned for the negligence charged against him by Gov, Yates,The school will be permanently established at Metropolis.Springfield, HL, July 11.—Gov.wYates has taken the Taoe trouble at Eldorado, in Saline county, in his ownhands, and has ordered out a part ofCompany F, Fourth infantry, IllinoisNational Guard, under AdjutantGeneral Bwert,Col, Ewert’s orders from Gov. Yat©3are to protect the lives and propertyof the colorod people and to ascertain,if possible, who the offenders are. Ifapprehended they will be dealt withseverely, as the governor is determined that these outrages upon the colored citizens shall cease. The state will have the co-operation of the mayor of Eldorado and many citizens who have interested themselves in seeing that justice is given the negro population.Gov. Yates apparently does not put xuuoh confidence, if any, in Sheriff Barter's assertion .that hdhas beendoing' all in htsrpower to -stop—these*' outrages and * bring the offenders to justice. , According to the sheriff's reports, there is no trouble at Eldorado. Reports received daily at the gov-’ ernor's office are all to the effect that threateninga and intimidations are a nightly occurrence.
