NEW §ET-RICH-QUICK SCHEME IS NIPPED IN THE BUDEd Watson, Tramp, Was on Road to Wealth Had Not Patrolman Lee Stopped Traffic. The latest thing in the get-rieh-quick schemes was exemplified in thiscity by Ed Watson alias Ed Davis, atramp. He was on the road to the accumulation of a big roll and would have succeeded if New Castle’s supply of stepladders had held out and Patrolman Orville Lee had not interfered and put an end to his little game.Walters' game was to borrow step-ladders and then sell them at reduced prices. He would approach the owner of the ladders with a tale of needing one to help him in a job of washing windows and with a promise to return it on completion oL the work. Once securing the ladder he succeeded in selling them with a story of needing money for medicine for a sick child. The Rev. A. R.Arford, pasto? of the Christian church, was one of the purchasers of the borrowed pron-erty, while another was Mark Stretch, the well known painter.Patrolman Lee appeared on the scene while Watson was attempting to sell a ladder to Bob Vaughn. He stopped the sale and took the vender in custody. He is now in jail and will be arraigned before Special Judge Paul Brown at the session of the city court this morning.
