Bale and Leslie Martin Admitted They Made and Sold Whiskey.V —Named Patrons.The most sensational ftbooze'f raid •ever pulled off” in thiB county, in which 15 violators of the prohibition law were arrested by Sheriff Becker •and a big still confiscated, which occurrence was followed by th,e almost* unknown event of a night session of county court* at which the accused were severely punished by Judge Pond, caused greater excitement in this county on the Fourth of July than all the fireworks and other doings.The persons arrested are residents of Hinckley.' The first one arrested was Edward Baie, who admitted to the court that he had operated a still with a capacity of 10 gallons. His hired roan, Leslie Martin, next arrested, admitted that he was a co-partner ofBaie in the distilling and also sold the moonshine, and that they divided the profits on a 50-50 basis. These men furnished the officers with a list of their patrons, which resulted in the arrest of the following named citizens of Hinckley and vicinity:Ed. Meilinger, Stanley Heeg, Harrison Blakely, Claude Martin, James P. Holm, Melvin Hobbs, Earl Biehl, Albert Anderson, John Greenacre, August Wedemeier, Balph E. Scott, Homer -Greenacre and Melvin Weddings.The wheels of justice were immediately set in motion by State's Attorney Poust and alj the accused were brought before Judge Pond on Tuesday after-nj^^on information filed by the .a [Attorney, and at a night, session of county court all eases were disposedof. All entered pleas of guilty.Baie, the chief ^offender, was fined $400 and costs. Martin, his partner in the manufacture and sale of the whiskey, was fined $200 and costs. Heeg and Hobbs, who are minors, were fined $50 and costs. All the others were fined $50 and costs, each. The total fines assessed amounted to. $1,800.Judge Pond warned all the offenders of the necessity for strict enforcement of these laws which have recently been placed on our statute books by our law makers, and said they would be enforced to the best of the court's ability regardless of individual opinions or of the individuals affected.Such an unusual thing as a night session of court caused a lot of excitement about the court house, and the rapidity -with which justice was dispensed was somewhat astounding to many.
