Burglars have been quite busy in Drrville during- the past week, having ooted three business places, but were ansuccessful in securipg loot of anyamount. Some time during Tuesday evening B. F. Wheeler's grocery was broken into and from $30 to $50 taken from the safe. Entrance was gamed by ireaking the back door off the coal -hed where they had access to the main store. The safe which was unlocked. was opened and the sack with extra change was taken. The cash register which contained about $75 :n money was unmolested. The burglary was discovered Wednesday morning when Vincent Magill, one of the clerk3 of the store, opened for the day. He found the door of the shed off and lying in the alley at the rear of the store. The loss ofmoney was not discovered until about ; o'clock when Ben Wheeler, who was in charge of the store during the absence of his son, found that the safe had been ransacked and the drawers pried open, and the 3ack of change was gone. It appears that the work was done by amateurs at the game.On the same evening of the Wheeler burglary the office of the Kianey Lumber company was broken open but nothing was molested with the exception of ransacking through a bundle of valuable papers. No money was taken. Entrance was gained through one of the windows. The third similar escapade transpired on Saturday night when entrance was gained through the window of the J. M. Smueker apple butter factory office. The top 3ash of the window was lowered and entrance was easily gained. The safe cabinet where the books were kept, was opened and looted but nothing was taken. Peculiarly the burglars handled about $60 in currency which was in two pay envelopes lying in the desk which they had ransacked. They in all probability considered the envelopes valueless. An investigation is being made as to who is the guilty party who is committing these depredations. The authorities have a clue to the guilty parties, ascertained through marks of the hand on the desk at the Smueker factory. Also the party wore tennis shoes or rubbers, as the imprints are on the floor. If arrested the parties will be severely dealt with.
